Handmade Tournament Backgammon Sets

Our boards are made by Fazil Terlemez, a German craftsman.

Disabled from polio when he was 3 years old, and limited to working from a sitting position in a wheel chair, Fazil has earned his livelihood for the past 20 years by making superb backgammon boards, dice cups and doubling cubes.

Every board in our store was handmade by Fazil in a very simple workshop. No machines, nothing outsourced to offshore labor, no one to take over when he takes a day off. Fazil's boards are built by his powerful hands, arms, and shoulders. Equally powerful is his commitment to perfection. For Fazil, no detail is too small to be overlooked. When his boards are put side by side to others, it is evident that Fazil's philosophy is "Done Right" instead of "Good Enough". Everything about his designs speak of strength, durability, and beauty. His boards are a joy to play on.

Fazil's playing surface of choice is a felt made from dense Merino sheep wool. Merino sheep are an ancient breed. Their wool is recognized as one of the world's most durable natural materials. It has no equal.

Unlike hard playing surfaces (especially those with printed surfaces), soft Merino wool is a quiet yet lively playing surface. Dice tumble easily across the soft board surface and will not spin on their corners. Merino wool resists wear, is easy to clean, and will not become tacky. Checkers will never lose their smooth glide action.

FTH 45mm (1.75") and 50mm (2") checkers are custom made to Fazil's exacting specifications. (Not made in China!) Their super smooth surfaces perfectly compliment Fazil's Merino wool playing surfaces.

Every board comes with 8 corner protectors, a unique handmade 40mm doubling cube, 2 or 4 dice cups, 4 or 8 ball-cornered precision dice, 2 scoring cubes, and a high quality leather dice bag.

Our newly released Titan Series boards are built with 50mm (2 inch) checkers and ship with a heavy duty canvas carry bag.

FTH is from "F"azil, his wife "H"anim, and their last name, "T"erlemez.
